The Gesher Music Festival of Emerging Artists will bring the intimate form of chamber music to the community June 20-29 in a program featuring young professional musicians at the beginnings of their careers. This year's festival is moving into the community with concerts at a variety of venues. As in past years, festival musicians will also be part of a Shabbat service at Central Reform Congregation.Gesher is the Hebrew word for bridge, or connection. The festival is attempting to build multi-cultural bridges by exposing audiences to music that has a connection to the Jewish experience, whether by a Jewish or non-Jewish composer. The musicians also hope to build bridges to younger and new audiences through their outreach programs, and hope to build bridges between the classical repertoire and more contemporary music.Highlighting this concept is a U.S. premiere of a piece by Israeli composer Gilad Hochman. Hochman's very contemporary piece, 'Shedun Fini,' is an homage to Franz Schubert's 'Unfinished Symphony.'In addition to several scheduled outreach events at locations such as the Juvenile Detention Center, Covenant House and Siteman Cancer Center, there will also be unannounced 'pop-up' concerts at venues such as grocery stores, health centers, banks and other venues to reach underserved communities.Details on the concerts are available on the New Jewish Theatre website, http://ift.tt/1oEn32B, or at http://ift.tt/1oEn5Y0. Tickets are $20 or $40 depending on the event and may be purchased online or by calling the NJT box office at 442-3283.The Gesher Music Festival is presented by the Silk Foundation.Opening Galawith cellist Matt HaimovitzInternationally renowned cellist Matt Haimovitz will officially kick off the fourth annual Gesher Music Festival as this year's guest artist on Sunday, June 22, 7:30 p.m., in the Centene Auditorium, 7700 Forsyth Blvd.Renowned as a musical pioneer, Haimovitz has inspired classical music lovers and countless new listeners by bringing his artistry any place where passionate music can be heard.
