RALEIGH-Music lovers take over downtown Raleigh as the annual Hopscotch music festival kicked off Thursday-the three day music festival is spread across more than 10 venues in the Capital City.

From city plaza to the Pour House more than 100 bands will take the stage for this year's Hopscotch music festival.

'I was definitely very excited to be involved. Heard of the festival a lot always wanted to make it down but it's been the first time had an excuse to do so,' said Soft Cat band member Brendan Sullivan.

A large portion of this year's lineup features bands from across the state.

'I feel like every show opens up with one. Which is awesome because it gives all these cats from North Carolina a chance to put their name out there and get a little better exposure,' said Kill Devil Hills resident John Saturley.

Last year's event brought between 4,000 and 5,000 people to Raleigh. The different venues allow music goers to 'hop' around and check out different bands.

'I like how small the venues are so it's more intimate,' said Kill Devil Hills resident Taylor Casey.

The three day music festival features all different types of music across twelve different stages in downtown Raleigh. Event organizers say they're happy with how much the festival has grown since it first started in 2010.

'We want to figure out ways to kind of grow it within what it is. We don't want it to be South By (Southwest) where it takes over an entire city,' said Hopscotch Music Festival Talent Coordinator Nathan Price.

Its popularity has taken the state by storm which is music to the ears of the music scene in the Triangle.
