'Lockn'' kicks o tomorrow in Nelson County and organizers have made some changes to address some problems that came up in 20-13. WDBJ7's Tim Saunders visited the site today. Tim, what's different at the festival this year? Jean, the entire venue has been reconfigured to improve the experience for concert goers, both in and outside the gates. With a crowd of 25- thousand people and headliners like Widespread Panic, the inaugural Lockn' music festival was hardly a failure. But organizers Dave Frey and Peter Shapiro concede there were a few things that could have gone more smoothly. Peter Shapiro/Co- Founder: 'We'v looked at every part of the festival and made a real effort to ask ourselves 'what worked last time and what can we do better?'' One of the main things they've addressed is traffic. More than 12- thousand tons of gravel have been brought in to build roads on the Oak Ridge Estate, where the festival is being held. They also bought a large piece of land next to the festival site, to create more camping and parking space. Shapiro: 'We'v really tweeked everything to make it, across the board, awesome.' The festival will also put a greater emphasis on local vendors. Around 20 businesses from Nelson County and the surrounding area will be housed in a special tent. County leaders say the event is a great marketing tool for the entire region. Organizers want Lockn' to be one of America's premiere music festivals, surpassing the 'Bonnaroo' event Nashville to become one of the largest on the east coast. They believe their location in Nelson County is ideal to bring in music lovers from major cities. Dave Frey/Co- Founder: 'It's prett much in the middle of nowhere, but it's also close to everything.' As Lockn grows annually, Frey and Shapiro plan to keep the event where it started. Frey: 'We're going t be here for a long, long time to come.' Gates at Lockn' open tomorrow morning at 6 and the first concert is tomorrow afternoon at 4. The headling acts this year are Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and The Allman Brothers. They also bought a 400-acre farm next to the festival site, to create more camping and parking space.
'We've really tweaked everything to make it, across the board, awesome,' Shapiro said.
