What to know about the Boston Calling Music Festival

The semi-annual Boston Calling Music Festival returns to City Hall Plaza this Memorial Day weekend with Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Jenny Lewis, Modest Mouse, and more musical acts. Laid-back acoustic rocker Jack Johnson kicks things off Friday night with Cass McCombs and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros.

Here are a few things to know before cozying up to your favorite bands.

Attendees, who can watch performances at two different stages (blue and red), will have several food options on the grounds. Vendors include fast food fare like Chipotle Mexican Grill, Tasty Burger, Roxy's, and Bon Me - and Boston Calling notes that vegetarian dishes will be on many menus. Beer and wine can also be purchased.

City Hall Plaza is MBTA accessible. Since the Government Center station is closed for construction, walk from the State Street station on the Orange and Blue lines, or Haymarket stop on the Orange and Green lines (you can also look into the MBTA bus schedule). Parking will likely be a challenge, so the festival is encouraging use of public transportation. General admission passes are sold out for Saturday and Sunday, but VIP tickets are still available at the Boston Calling website. Families take note: Children under 10 are free. Certain items are prohibited from the festival, such as large bags and backpacks, professional cameras and recording devices, pets, and more.
