What might be one of the last nice weather weekends of the year will play host to the 30th annual Fall Colors Fine Art and Music Festival in downtown Stillwater. More than 70 artists from around the Midwest - coming as far away as Colorado - will showcase their talents in north Lowell Park.
'What makes the Fall Colors festival different than our spring art fair is the focus on fine art,' said Todd Streeter, executive director of the Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the event. 'It's a bit smaller than the spring event, but is really is a concentration of quality art.'
The art shown at the festival includes paintings, drawings and sculpture, as well as photography, pottery and jewelry.
The Fall Colors Art and Music Festival is also an event that artists want to come to.
'We had six requests by new artists to join the festival on Monday, less than a week before the festival,' said chamber event manager Dolly Parker.
The music lineup matches the high quality of the art in the festival.
'We have a national artist, Natalie Gelman, flying in to play at the festival,' Streeter said. 'David Ybarra played at our Rockin' Ribs event in Bayport this summer, and they are just awesome.'
The Maple Island Brewery across the street from the Fall Colors Fine Art Fair opened Sept. 30, and event organizers are taking advantage of the new space.
'We will hold our artist's reception at Maple Island, just to say thank you for coming to our show,' Streeter said. 'They are a new business on the north side of downtown, and it is nice to have them there.'
Along with a short distance to downtown restaurants, the festival will feature food venders of its own.
'We have some fun options,' Parker said. 'There are going to be fish tacos and some other great food trucks.'
'It should be a nice weekend to get outside and enjoy the crisp fall air,' Streeter said.
The Fall Colors Fine Art and Music Festival takes place 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5. On Saturday, Kurt Jorgensen will take the music stage from noon to 2 p.m, and blues group Crankshaft will play 3-5 p.m. On Sunday, Natalie Gelman will play 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and David Ybarra and the Northside Dukes from 2-4 p.m.

"We've had ACL festival pretty zipped up for a while," Lindsay Hoffman, festival marketing manager at C3, tells Billboard.
