Tribute bands are surging these days, making for the ultimate sonic time machine experience, and music lovers of a wide range of genres can fill their nostalgic tanks at the inaugural Rockefellas Music Festival this weekend.

Rockefellas at the Live Oak Inn is a popular bar in Corona that features live music. In addition to 17 tribute bands performing on the main stage, there will be a second stage featuring 15 local bands, plus a classic car show on the premises during the two-day event.

A portion of proceeds from the festival will benefit the Kids Rock Free program in Corona, which offers free and low-cost music lessons to kids.

Tribute bands

There is no shortage of tribute bands playing the club circuit, and Rockefellas Music Festival organizers set out to pick ones they felt most embodied the acts they impersonate.

Event organizer Sean Ryan said the event breaks new ground, as nothing like this has been done in the Inland region.

'Our goal was to pick acts whose performance and look mimics the band they are paying tribute to,' Ryan said. 'People can't even see several of the original bands live anymore.'

Tributes to Pink Floyd, Guns N' Roses and Led Zeppelin will be among the performers.

Britian's Finest, a band replicating the Beatles, has performed on AXS TV's show 'The World's Best Tribute Bands' twice in the past two years.

Local music

A flock of local bands will perform on a second stage, which will fire up while the main stage is between acts, making for a continuous stream of performances.

Organizers said they wanted to shine a spotlight on the thriving local music scene and chose a lineup to reflect many bands that regularly perform at Rockefellas, including Castle Pines, Blue Haze and The Mendenhall Experiment.

Car Show

Attendees can see classic cars such as a 1931 Plymouth Roadster, a 1963 Lincoln Continental or a 1947 Mercury Coupe as part of a corral of 50-100 vehicles.

George Andrews, who organizes several Inland-area car shows, including the upcoming Showdown at the Storm Car Show and Swap Meet in Lake Elsinore, lent his hand.

In addition to music and cars, local businesses will have booths and there will be an art walk, wine and beer gardens and a Ferris wheel.
