65th annual JefCoEd music festival Nov. 20 - Trussvilletribune

BIRMINGHAM - The 65th annual Jefferson County Schools Music Festival, 'My Favorite Things,' is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20 at Boutwell Auditorium in downtown Birmingham.


The free and public event begins at 7 p.m.


The music festival, sponsored by the Jefferson County Schools Department of Arts Education, will feature about 1,000 students from more than 50 arts programs in Jefferson County schools. Students of grade levels four through 12 representing all areas of the county will perform.


The music selected for the event is seasonal in nature. The selections will be performed by choir and band students. Some of the holiday selections include 'Christmas in Dixie' performed by the Senior High All-County Men's Choir; 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' performed by the Middle School All-County Choir; 'My Favorite Things' performed by the All-County Elementary Choir; and 'The Polar Express' performed by the All-County High School Band.


Selections of a multicultural nature will also be presented. These include 'Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day!' performed by the Senior High Women's Choir, and 'Bidi Bom,' a Hanukah selection, performed by the Middle School All-County Choir.


The concert will conclude with 'A Holiday Sing-Along,' featuring the combined All-County Choirs and Band.


Director of Arts Education Dianne Johnson and Supervisor of Bands Jon S. Remley will direct the program. Visual Arts Supervisor Stacia Jacks will also assist.
